CFRBA Welcomes New Board Members

The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany is pleased to announce the addition of three new board members.  Mark Matheson, Barbara Luton and Patrick Webb.

Mark Matheson is a volunteer professor at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista. He has taught courses on investments, entrepreneurship and small business management, and social entrepreneurship. Mark received a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix, a master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Utah. For more than fifteen years, Mark owned a successful stock investment business and is a chartered financial analyst. Prior to setting up his own investment office, he was a partner and senior research analyst with Crowell, Weedon & Co. in Los Angeles. Formerly, he was director of research at Cruttenden & Co. in Irvine, Calif. He also was senior vice-president of corporate development for Fidelity National Financial and an analyst with Capital Research and Management. Mark was the founder and president of Greater Salt Lake Tours, Inc.

Barbara Luton and her husband Bill retired to Lexington in 2006 from Santa Barbara, CA. A graduate of Westmont College (BA Psychology), and Pepperdine University (MBA) she was employed by Tenet Healthcare Corporation as Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and Executive Director of the Tenet Healthcare Foundation prior to moving to Virginia. Previously she had served as Deputy Director and Director of Development at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Among her volunteer roles in California, she was a founding board member of the Santa Ynez Valley Community Foundation. Since moving to Virginia she has been active on a number of committees at RE Lee Memorial Church, served two terms on the board of the Garden Club of Virginia, and currently serves on the board of the Blue Ridge Garden Club in Lexington.

Pat retired from the US Army as a colonel following a career of 30 years. In that time, he served in both staff and command positions. Since retiring from the military, he served in several development positions. He was the Director of Information Services for Office of Advancement at Ohio University. He subsequently was the Vice President for Annual and Reunion Giving with the VMI Foundation until he retired for the second time in 2013. Pat serves as a trustee on the Virginia Department of Veterans Services’ Veteran Services Foundation. He is president of the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America in Lexington. Pat is a volunteer with the Ride with Pride, therapeutic riding program in Staunton. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and the Florida Institute of Technology.

CFRBA is staffed by Executive Director Lori Keckler.  Board Members include Dan Vance (Chairman), Robert Glidden (Vice Chairman), Woody Sadler (Treasurer), Sue Whitsitt (Secretary),  Russell Tompkins, , Elizabeth Knapp, Josh Elrod, Carol Grigsby and George Phillips.
