The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany administers four scholarship funds to assist capable and deserving students based on the criteria established by fund donors. All awards are subject to the availability of funds. Specifics of the Foundation’s scholarship program are subject to change from time to time.

Scholarship Funds

The Eric Charles Bowyer Memorial Fund will provide scholarship assistance to a graduating student from Bath County High School who is continuing his/her education by attending Vocational/Technical training.

The Charles H. Lauck, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship assistance to a graduating Rockbridge County High School student who intends to enroll in a post-secondary institution.

The Jacqueline Corbin Pleasants Democratic Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship assistance to a graduating senior from Rockbridge County High School or Parry McCluer High School student who intends to enroll full-time in an accredited two or four-year college or university.

The Edward F. Turner, Jr. Memorial Fund will provide scholarship assistance to the graduate from Rockbridge County High School who achieves the highest grades for the year in Physics.

The Lexington High School Alumni Scholarship Fund will provide higher-education scholarship assistance to needy and deserving students graduating from Rockbridge County High School or successor school.

The Blair Family Scholarship Fund will provide higher-education scholarship assistance to needy and deserving students graduating from Rockbridge County High School.

The George C. Marshall Scholarship Fund was established to provide higher-education scholarship assistance to deserving students who are a child of active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired members of the United States military.

The Margaret Gresham/Covington Woman’s Club of GFWC Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship assistance to a graduating Alleghany High School or Covington High School student who intends to enroll full-time in an accredited two or four-year college or university.

Stonewall Jackson Ladies Auxiliary Scholars

Jaclyn’s Hope Scholarship will provide scholarship assistane to a Rockbridge County High School graduate who intends to enroll fulltime at a college or university in Virginia for the nursing profession (CNA to RN) 

Who May Apply?

Graduating high school seniors who intend to begin a program at an accredited two- or four year college or university, or technical/vocational school. See Scholarship Eligibility Requirements for more specific information

Typical Academic Scholarship Timeline

January

Electronic applications and Scholarship Guides are made available on the Foundation’s website.

March

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE. This is not a postmarked deadline.
You must only complete ONE application form.

April – June

Award selections are made. Award notification letters are mailed to applicants.

June

Scholarship checks are mailed directly to the college or university in the recipient’s name.

Additional Scholarships

Camp Spirit Scholarship Fund Camp Mont Shenandoah, a traditional summer camp located in beautiful Bath County, Virginia, and one of the oldest girls’ camps in the country, was started in 1927 by Nannie West with fewer than thirty girls. Since that time, the camp has grown and developed to welcome close to 300 campers during the summer season. 

Nature Camp Scholarship Fund – The Nature Camp Scholarship was created with the recognition of the positive value that an experience at a nature camp can have on a young person’s development, especially for individuals in lower-income or underrepresented communities.
